The Christmas Post

Christmas is in full swing now, and without getting all bah humbug its a pain in the ass. The gypsies are in the town centre dragging half dead under-nourished lambs behind them, and asking you to stroke them for good luck. God knows how that's supposed to bring you good luck and for 20,000 lei I wasn't going to find out.

The worst thing about the Christmas period however is the music being played everywhere. Some bright spark in this fine city has decided it would be a good idea to pipe the festive sounds through Bucharest's subway system, so now we have Bing Crosby sounding like he's stuck down a mine shaft as 'White Christmas' pops and hisses from the metro's tannoy system. Jesus Christ indeed!

As an alternative to Bing and the boys, i offer you a cheeky little number which steals LCD Soundsystem's seminal "I'm Losing My Edge", adds some christmas bells, adapts the lyrics and voila "I'm Losing My Sledge"

Winters Coming

Ever get the feeling they know something you don't? The cars on the street are getting ready for the cold winter months and hiding under their tarpalin and canvas jackets. When they are lined up altogether it looks kind of ominous.

Stick 'Em Up

Noticed a few of these stickers put up in some pretty random locations, which followed part of my walk home last night. Don't know what they are, and as far as I can tell they're not trying to sell me something, or promote anything. However the middle photo maybe the Romanian Pete Doherty & Kate Moss... and now I look at them further, the last one could be Westlife, Eastern style.

SECTOR 7 HQ

Here's a photo of our new headquarters for SECTOR 7. We've been busy displaying our complete lack of diy skills over the weekend, transforming an empty space into our new working environment. Before you get too excited thinking 'bloody hell that looks grand' we're all the way up in the attic, in a labrynth of rooms and corridors of which half are pretty knackered. But it has character and a marble staircase (which turns into a creaky wooden staircase up to our HQ).

A night out with the neighbours

Last night I went out with my neighbour Viorel and his cousin who were going to show me Bucharest from a different angle. "Listen to me, listen to me" starts Viorel "we eat much food so we can drink, drink, drink all night long. I show you manele club, and we party, party, party."

Well, it turned out fairly uneventful, the manele was a disapointment, and we ended up in a really classy joint called "Million Dollar, who's clients are so sophisticated they demand only the "Best" tissues on their bar tables and their drink of choice is red wine with coca-cola.
