Graveyard on Grivitei

Last sunday was a sunny day and in an atempt to prepare myself for the onslaught of an afternoon shop at Carrefour, I took a slight detour. Before the chaos and claustraphobia of the supermarket isles, i found peace and solitude, ambling round the corners of the local graveyard.

The place was packed, a real popular hangout with the sunday crowd. It made me wonder if there had been a nearby catastrophe on this particluar day, many years ago, or if there were some corpses of distinction down below, or whether graveyards are generally busy places. I don't frequent them as a matter of habit.

Further investigation revealed that a fair number of pilots were laid to rest here, tailfims of their planes casting shadows next to their crosses and tombs. This got me thinking about the percentage of people who had died of old age compared those whose life had ended from fatal accidents, disease or even murder. This train of thought was interupted when I passed an empty grave, its lid pulled open revealing a deep stone lined resting place.

As I left the graveyard i made a mental note to myself that I should visit other such places. They are certainly good places to think and clear your head. I carried to my desired destination, the huge frenzied consumer emporium known as Carrefour. After battling with other shoppers and standing in a queue for 45 minutes at the checkout, I felt a strong desire to return to the graveyard... permanently!

Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet

January is usually a hibernation period for the clubbing fraternity. Money all spent after christmas, coupled with the years biggest blow out on new year's eve, means most party people curl up under their duvets and feel sorry for themselves for the weeks following. Not so in Bucharest it seems. Studio Martin last weekend was packed with an energetic crowd who had come to support local talents Rosario Internullo and DJ Optik, some of whom looked like they hadn't been to sleep since 2006. Must be something in the water.

New DJ Mix Series for 2007

"Statistics reveal that you are more likely to commit suicide on the third week of january than any other week in the year. I’d love to say this mix might help deter any possible tendencies, but it can’t.

However if it’s any consolation, this is the first in monthly series of mixes for 2007, spanning various genres of the musical spectrum. Now that’s something to look forward to... Surely."

A Lazy Sunday Afternoon Stroll 1

After two or three days of cold and snow the sun came out on sunday coaxing me out for a sunday walk. Straydogs joined me as I walked down Grivitei, Buzeti and after a bite to eat in the centre, onto Mosilor. Many of the buildings on these streets have fallen from grace, their restoration a big question mark now that they are inhabited by gypsies.
