Fashion East Transylvanian Tour

For the next 8 days i'm driving around Transylvania, promoting our new website Fashion East, that we created for Amigo Coffee. I'll be making a full report on the Sector 7 site (www.s7.ro) when I get back to Bucharest, but for the moment here's a few pictures from Sighisoara, our first stop.

rOBOTS 8

There are some rumours floating around that the Web Club is 10 years
old this coming weekend. So who better to kick off the next ten years,
and celebrate in style than the rOBOTS very own Sven (DJ's with Bad
Haircuts) and Logan? Well, many people, I hear you cry.... but we got there first :)

Dancefloor devestation from 11pm until the sun comes up, or the
jagermeister is finished, or the soundsystem blows up.

Old School

Jump into your time machine and travel back into time, around about the dawn of man, and you would find Stratford-On-Avon's very own 'three stooges' Logan, Toby Sutton and Corrie Jones, sneaking a secret cigarette behind the pub wall of the Dirty Duck!

Just got this picture sent to me from an old friend. It was probably taken in 1988. (i'm on the left)

Fake Tees

Following on from my post the other day about random english words on tee shirts, yesterday at Sibiu train station I saw a gypsy wearing what I thought was a Nike 'Air' Jordan jacket. On further inspection however I saw it was a fake. This is what it said...

Classic! That's even better than the real thing.

UnderLondon at Fabrica

A full house and an eager crowd ready to party greeted the bands at this, the fourth UnderLondon event. Quite a transformation from the first event 12 months ago when the punters didn't seem to know how to react to a live band on stage. What a difference a year makes. Now there is a growing indie scene in Bucharest and attitudes and styles have caught up. In fact if you looked around you, you could have mistaken it for a warehouse party in east london.

I was especially looking forward to tonight as some friends of mine were representing the London contingency. Battant are a four piece band from Shoreditch, their sound taking the best bits from new wave, electro, indie and lots of low slung bass! I chatted with Chloe, the lead singer, before the gig, and she was feeling the same enthusiasm and excitement for the city I felt when first here. When it came to their performance, they didn't dissapoint, stirring up the crowd and leaving them shouting and screaming for more.

Gobbldigook

It's always fun when you're living in a foreign land to spot the many examples of complete nonsense written in your native language. These anomalies are found decorating tee-shirts, hoddies, casual jackets and the like. I'm guessing most of these are manufactured in china and the far east, but they could just as easily come from eastern europe.

Recent examples include:
Ragging Bull (raging bull)
Totaly Fason (totally fashion?)
Authentic Cocknee Polit (????)

This was spotted on a pair of fake (i hope) Dolce & Gabana underpants in a local market,
"heard my friends characterisitc laugh: the stripes that are characteristic of the zebra"

Drumul Taberei

I spent this weekend in Drumul Taberei, a high density urban area in the south-west of Bucharest. It is typical communist block land. The apartments are called "cutii de chibrituri" which translates literally as "matchboxes" and the buildings repeat themselves as far as the eye can see. To its credit, the streets are tree-lined, it has a park with a lake and a swimming pool at its heart and, as it is a highly concentrated residential area, shopping facilities are good due to the abudance of hyper-markets.

The pictures above are from a factory i passed called monplast. Its produce proudly displayed in it's factory shop.
